The Seven Golden Rules - A Path To Longevity

Eating Is An Offering To The Body. The senses feel gratified when we offer wholesome and tasteful food to this place (body) we call home. We suggest an ancient ritual, a Vedic system of eating. Legend has it that it is a path to longevity. Here are the basic requirements for performing the celebration of eating:

1. The place where you eat should be quiet and peaceful. You should not have any disturbing or unpleasant conversations during your meal. You should not discuss any business or read a newspaper or book.

2. The best time of the day for your main meal is at midday when digestion is the highest. Eat three times per day. Breakfast and dinner should be light.

3. The interval of six hours has to be maintained between  meals. You have to give your stomach enough time for digestion.

4. The sequence in which food should be eaten is important. The food you eat first should be sweeter in taste, such as grains and legumes. These foods contain the body building materials: proteins and amino acids. They should fill up one third of your stomach.

Next in order should be sour and salty foods, such as cooked vegetables, soups, yogurt and salads. They increase digestion and fill up the next third of the stomach. Salads should not be eaten at the beginning of the meal, for they create gas and constipation.

5. At the end of the meal you should take half a cup of fresh yogurt mixed with half a cup of water (buttermilk-lassi) to stimulate digestion, avoid gas and maintain a proper acid-alkaline balance in the stomach.

For proper digestion: the first third of your stomach should be filled with solid foods, the second third with water or more liquid based foods and finally, the third part of your stomach should be left empty.

6. After the meal do not drink for one hour. Rest for about ten minutes. Let the fire of digestion do its work. About one hour later to quench your thirst you can drink anything you like. Try our empowering hot teas and cold drinks.

7. State of mind during the meal has to be peaceful. Correct eating will create a happy human being, balanced and satisfied with life. If the body feels heavy and tired, if the mind becomes numb and dull, it means that the yoga of eating did not take place.  The process of eating was not properly accomplished.

Balance is the key. Moderation in eating and sleeping will prolong your life. Excessive and deficient eating and sleeping will disturb the balance in your system and develop stress, pain and disease.
